Bayern and Dortmund right-backs the most realistic options for Barcelona in the summer

Barcelona are bracing themselves for a busy summer ahead. The club need to address various issues within the squad, including the lack of a reliable right-back.
According to Diario SPORT, Barça have no shortage of targets in the market. They are particularly attentive to the situation revolving around Joao Cancelo, who has recently lost prominence at Manchester City, but the club are keeping their options open.
As per the report, Barça have targeted Thomas Meunier and Benjamin Pavard as potential cost-effective solutions in their bid to sign a new right-back.
Meunier, for one, offers bags of experience, having played for clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain while representing Belgium 62 times. At the age of 31, he should not cost a fortune either, especially with his contract at Dortmund expiring in 2024.
Pavard, meanwhile, is a much younger alternative. The Frenchman was even considered one of Europe’s most talented right-backs, especially when his blazing performances guided Les Bleus to a World Cup title in 2018.
But since joining Bayern Munich, Pavard has not been able to fulfil his potential. He has lost prominence in Julian Nagelsmann’s setup, especially following the summer arrival of Noussair Mazraoui. The Frenchman, therefore, will be available in the market this coming summer.
However, signing either of these two options could be challenging for Barcelona, who are facing economic hardships and must considerably lower the overall salary budget before they can spend money on new signings.
A lot may depend on whether or not Barcelona are able to cash in on Sergino Dest. The American international is currently on loan at AC Milan with a purchase option worth €20 million.
But Barça fear Dest may return to Camp Nou in the summer following a disappointing time at San Siro so far, thus further limiting the club’s financial powers.
