By this point, it is quite clear that Barcelona will be looking to sign a new right-back in the January transfer window. With Hector Bellerin not delivering as expected and Sergi Roberto battling injury problems, it has become imperative for Xavi & co. to bring in a new player in the position.

And recent reports have indicated that Barça have identified as many as five possible targets for the right-back slot.

And, SPORT is reporting that of the five names on the alleged shortlist, Barcelona have two favourites to strengthen the position – Juan Foyth of Villarreal and Benjamin Pavard of Bayern Munich.

Foyth is no stranger to Barça, with the club having pursued the Argentine defender extensively during the summer transfer window earlier this year. Villarreal’s financial demands and the 24-year-old’s injury late in the window put an end to the pursuit, but he has continued to be on the radars of the Blaugrana.

Foyth has returned to action only recently after a spell on the sidelines and starred in Villarreal’s 9-0 win over CD St. Amalia in the Copa del Rey, bagging two assists.

The former Tottenham Hotspur man’s contract with the Yellow Submarine runs until 2026 and they could demand a hefty fee for his services once again in the January window.

As for Pavard, the Frenchman has been a regular for Bayern Munich at right-back despite the summer arrival of Noussair Mazraoui. The 26-year-old has played 21 times this season and scored four goals in the process.

A World Cup winner with France, Pavard’s contract situation could make him a more feasible target for Barça. His current deal with Bayern runs out in 2024, meaning he will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and a renewal is looking unlikely.

So, the Bavarians could be tempted to cash in on him in January when they can fetch a decent price for the right-back.

Apart from Foyth and Pavard, the other three names Barcelona are looking at are Diogo Dalot of Manchester United, Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen and Wilfried Singo of Torino. It remains to be seen who Xavi & co. decide to sign come January.
