The ongoing European Under-17 Championship has been overlooked in the midst of the season-end drama and excitement in European football.

But many Barcelona fans have something to cheer on as young sensation Lamine Yamal has starred for Spain in the ongoing championship.

Yamal, who made his competitive debut for Barcelona earlier in the year, even becoming the youngest-ever player to feature for the club, has played in all four matches for Spain in the U17 Championship.

After starting the tournament without a goal or an assist against Italy, he has racked up three goals and two assists – becoming one of the most productive players in the competition.

Yamal has been involved in at least one goal in each of his last three matches. He most recently starred in the 3-0 win over Ireland U17 in the quarterfinal, scoring a goal and mustering an assist. His performance helped Spain seal a ticket to the semifinal.

La Roja are now set to lock horns with France in the semis – one last hurdle before they can book a ticket to the final, where they will play either Poland or Germany.

Spain will certainly rely on Yamal to produce yet another brilliant performance to get them through to the final. The youngster’s performances should also help him gain more prominence in Xavi’s plans next season.

The Barcelona coach already wants Yamal to be a part of the pre-season preparations, and with various attacking stars being linked with a move away from Camp Nou, it will not come as a surprise to see the youngster become a viable option for Xavi next season.
