With less than 12 hours left before the transfer window closes, Barcelona are working hard at securing exits for players who are not in their plans while also trying to place prospects out on loan to help continue their development.
One such youngster who is now poised to leave the Catalans on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign is Ez Abde. The 20-year-old winger is on the verge of signing for Osasuna on a temporary basis for the rest of the season, reports Gerard Romero.
Abde joined the Blaugrana only last summer, arriving from Hercules CF. Signed to bolster the Barça Atletic side, the Moroccan ace got a taste of first-team football towards the end of 2021, when the Catalans were struggling with injuries in the attacking unit.
Abde made a decent impression but was sent back down to the subsidiaries following the January acquisitions made by Xavi. With more attacking players arriving this summer, the 20-year-old was always unlikely to find a place for himself in the first-team plans.
So, a loan move had been touted for quite some time. Initially, it was believed that Abde would be joining Elche temporarily to continue his progress by gaining regular minutes.
However, a move to Elche has fallen through, with the young winger now on the verge of signing for Osasuna for the rest of the campaign.
Romero reports that Abde will soon arrive at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva complex and sign a new contract extension with the club before finalising his loan move to Jagoba Arrasate’s side.
Abde, whose current contract with Barça runs until the summer of 2024, has made 12 senior appearances for the club so far, scoring one goal. A loan move to Osasuna, where he will stand a much better chance of playing regularly could work out to be a shrewd decision.
