Barcelona might have started their search for a replacement for Ousmane Dembele, who looks set to join Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the new season.

However, the club are also facing a situation regarding Vitor Roque. They have reached an agreement with Athletico Paranaense over the Brazilian attacker.

Vitor Roque was initially expected to join Barcelona in January due to the club’s financial constraints. But following Dembele’s and Franck Kessie’s exits, the club could be in a position to register the Brazilian forward this summer.

Athletico PR counting on Roque until 2024

According to Fabrizio Romano, Athletico PR have no intention of offloading Vitor Roque this summer. The club are counting on his services at least until December.

Romano points out that the coming year could be key for the club. It is the centenary season for the club since its foundation in 1924.

Therefore, Athletico PR want Vitor Roque to stay at the club until the end of the year and help the team qualify for next season’s Copa Libertadores.

With 23 goals and 11 assists in 72 competitive matches, Roque already has a stellar record at Athletico PR and his presence could go a long way in helping the club achieve its objective for the season.

Should Barcelona register Roque this summer?

There are many perks of Vitor Roque joining Barcelona ahead of the new season.

Although the forward’s addition may impact the club’s FFP margins, his presence in the team could go a long way in helping the club fill in for Dembele, who might be a part of the team for the upcoming Joan Gamper trophy.

This is because Roque is capable of operating not only as a central striker but also in a wider role. He can, therefore, prove to be an ideal alternative for Robert Lewandowski and Dembele.

Athletico PR, though, remain steadfast in their desire to keep Roque at the club this summer. They expect the forward to join Barcelona for the first game of 2024.
