According to Javi Miguel, there seems to have been a spoiler in Gerard Pique’s plans to start pre-season with the rest of the squad as his injuries seem to have resurfaced despite his work and rehabilitation on his injured left adductor in the off-season.

Pique made it into the news a couple of days ago as Barcelona’s second captain made it to preseason earlier than he was expected. He cut down his vacation to start pre-season with the right frame of mind and the goal to lead the young squad’s preparations.

The former Spain centre-back has constantly suffered from problems with his left adductor that he had been pulling along through the season before it finally caught up to him and ruled him out for the final part of last season.

The same injury seems to have sidelined him again with him being forced into carrying out specific work to the injured muscle to try and work it back to fitness before the start of pre-season.

The Barça centre-back has already had plenty of limelight in the off-season due to his supposed off-the-field shenanigans and an ugly and largely public break-up with his long-time girlfriend, Shakira.

The news had even stumped Barça manager Xavi, who reportedly had to have a chat with Pique about whether he would have the necessary concentration to lead the team with his large number of commitments off the field.

The 35-year-old is missing out on the preliminary session of the pre-season training and will be looking to make it into the team dynamics as soon as possible to maintain his place in the squad as the club has already started looking for alternatives.

The signing of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea is only the first step into bolstering Barça’s leaky defence as the club look to acquire the signature of Jules Kounde from Sevilla.
