Barcelona have unearthed gems like Ansu Fati, Gavi, Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez from their academy ranks in recent years.

More and more players are expected to rise to the senior team in the months and years to come, given the riches of talent that is coming through La Masia.

The likes of Marc Casado, Angel Alarcon, and Aleix Garrido have already tasted first-team football and more talents such as Pau Cubarsi, Pau Prim, and Marc Guiu are knocking on the doors.

Hector Fort making an impression

Another young gem from La Masia who has been making a strong impression of late is defensive prospect, Hector Fort.

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona management is very satisfied and happy with the 17-year-old right-back’s progression and development.

Just 17 years of age, Hector Fort has already made his breakthrough with Barcelona Atletic and in fact has started seven of their league fixtures this season, with Rafa Marquez preferring him over new signing Trilli.

The teenage right-back has showcased good attacking and defensive abilities for the reserve team and has even scored a goal in his seven appearances this term.

First-team call-up on the horizon?

The report states that the Barcelona sports management has been very impressed by how Hector Fort’s evolution has gone about in recent months.

And the belief is that if he continues to progress at this rate, a first-team breakthrough under Xavi might not be far away.

After all, the right-back slot has been an issue for Barça in the recent past and with recent fitness problems, there could be an opening.

Jules Kounde is on the sidelines and Alejandro Balde is also recovering from a minor injury. In this situation, if Xavi opts to move Joao Cancelo to left-back, Fort could be an option on the right side as Kounde is also unavailable.
