Barcelona have been given a huge boost ahead of their game against Real Madrid this weekend, as Javi Miguel reports that three of their very best are nearing a return, and are expected to be a part of the squad.
This includes Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Frenkie de Jong.
All three players picked up injuries in succession before the international break, with de Jong’s deemed the most serious of the three.
Lewandowski picked up an ankle injury during the game against Porto in the Champions League. He was substituted off in the first half itself for Ferran Torres, who ended up scoring the winning goal.
The Pole had been playing with some discomfort through the season, but Xavi had been using him cautiously, taking him off when games got comfortable, and not giving him too many minutes in a row.
The report now states that Lewa is expected to start against Real Madrid, directly back from injury. He will likely partner Joao Felix in the attack, while one of Gavi or Fermin Lopez join them in the attack.
Raphinha’s had picked up a hamstring injury against Sevilla after a stellar display against Mallorca, where he had a goal and an assist to his name.
The Brazilian was expected to be out for an entire month, at the least, but is nearing a return ahead of schedule.
He will likely not start the game, but could be brought on if Barcelona are chasing the scoreline around the hour mark.
Frenkie de Jong
Finally, the most important of them all, Frenkie de Jong was having a stellar season before he received a knock on his right ankle. Barcelona’s form and control on games has severely deteriorated since the Dutchman was sidelined.
Xavi will likely not risk him at all, and should he be a part of the squad for the game, fans can expect him to start on the bench.
