Barcelona are constantly on the prowl for young players with great potential, having had success with signings like Pedri and Ronald Araujo in the recent past.

It saw them rope in Pablo Torre last summer, beating Real Madrid to his signing. And heading into the summer, they continue to be linked with young talents such as Vitor Roque and Fabricio Diaz, among several others.

Now, SPORT is reporting that Barcelona have another youngster on their radars in the form of Abakar Sylla, a 20-year-old centre-back who plays for Belgian outfit Club Brugge.

Sylla joined Brugge’s youth setup in the summer of 2021 and was officially promoted to the senior team at the start of the ongoing season. Since then, the 20-year-old has played 24 games across all competitions and even scored a goal.

A left-footed centre-back, Sylla has shown great levels in his displays, especially in the UEFA Champions League, which has seemingly caught the attention of Barcelona.

Indeed, the Blaugrana are said to have followed the young Ivory Coast international and have received ‘excellent’ reports on him so far.

But, even though Barça like him, they are not in a position to make a bid for him this summer. Indeed, the Blaugrana are understood to have already secured the signing of Inigo Martinez on a two-year contract, to fill the vacant left-footed centre-half slot.

So, as things stand, the centre-back department appears fully covered at Spotify Camp Nou. However, the report adds that Barcelona will continue to track Sylla with an eye on the future as they are convinced that he can be a top defender.

There is a possibility that the 20-year-old could leave Brugge this summer itself, with clubs in the Premier League interested. But if he does not, Barcelona could revisit their interest in him at some point in the future but not this summer.
