Barcelona are expected to make an offer for Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen in the coming weeks as the 25-year-old continues to stall contract talks with the Blues, reports transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Christensen’s current Chelsea contract runs out at the end of the season, and the defending European champions have failed to strike a deal in order to keep him at Stamford Bridge. The situation has alerted several top clubs, including Barcelona, and the Catalan club are expected to lay their side of the deal soon.
The La Liga side, however, isn’t the only team chasing his signature, with Romano also attributing Bayern Munich with a strong interest. The Bavarians are set to lose Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund in the summer, meaning that there is, in fact a place to fill their team.
Bayern Munich are seriously considering making an offer for the central defender and are reportedly preparing a deal worth €11m-per-season. This represents a significant improvement to his reported €5m-per-season salary he is churning from the Blues.
As for Chelsea, they have already tabled their side of negotiation, with the aforementioned source claiming the team went as far as €7.2m-per-season. The defender, however, is said to be demanding a better deal.
It’s no secret that Barcelona are actively pursuing defensive reinforcement in the summer, with Christensen’s Chelsea teammate Cezar Azilicueta also on the club’s agenda. The contract situation of both the players is more or less similar, expiring at the end of the season, but the reasonings are distinct.
As things stand, the Blaugrana management is working closely with Xavi in order to make significant changes in the summer. This includes the potential departures of Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet while also finding a replacement for an ageing Gerard Pique.
