Barcelona confirmed the contract renewal of teenage prodigy Pau Cubarsi on Thursday, with the defensive ace signing a new deal until 2027.

With the teenager’s future secure, Barcelona will now shift their focus on tying down other core members of the team to new long-term deals.

Focus shifts to Pedri

As per Fabrizio Romano, with Cubarsi now renewed, Barcelona will begin work to renew the contract of fan-favourite midfielder Pedri in the coming months.

The 21-year-old Spanish midfield maestro is an integral part of the plans for Xavi and Barça despite his recurring injury issues being a concern.

There had been recent links to Liverpool, but Barcelona have declared Pedri as non-transferable heading into the summer transfer window.

Now, the Blaugrana will focus on tying him down to a new long-term contract to secure his continuity at the club.

Pedri loves Barcelona

The update from Romano further states that Pedri loves Barcelona and is not looking for a way out and does not intend to entertain any proposals or approaches from any other clubs.

As such, things are expected to go fairly smoothly as far as his contract renewal talks are concerned, although the FFP restrictions could pose a hurdle in the club offering him a significant improvement in wages.

Pedri’s current contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2026, and the ideal will be to renew him until at least 2028.
