Barcelona to face competition from Real Madrid and Chelsea for Bayern Munich defender

It is not difficult for one to point out the weak link in Barcelona’s squad for it is glaringly evident. The Blaugranas may have spent hundreds of millions of Euros in the summer strengthening their team, but the right-back position continues to be the team’s Achilles heel.
Sergino Dest was Barcelona’s first-choice right-back under Ronald Koeman, but Xavi Hernandez never fancied the USMNT star as a serious option.
With the American now out on loan, Barcelona only have Sergi Roberto and Hector Bellerin as natural options in the defensive position, with Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde capable of filling in as per the need.
According to reports from SPORT, Barcelona have explored the possibility of signing Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard in 2023.
The French international is yet to receive an extension offer from the Bavarians and seems set to leave the club because of his sour relationship with Julian Nagelsmann.
The Catalans are interested in the player but will not enter into a bidding war for his services. Pavard’s signing will only be considered if the player accepts the conditions of Barcelona’s new salary scale.
AC Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid are just a few of the many other clubs interested in securing Pavard’s services.
Given the long list of top European clubs behind his signature, it seems more and more unlikely that Barcelona will secure his transfer especially given that they do not want to spend big.
Pavard’s contract with Bayern Munich ends in 2024 but is firm about his desire to leave the club come June.
The 26-year-old has only scored one goal and provided no assists for the German side in 13 Bundesliga appearances this season. However, he has been solid in defence and averages over 11 defensive contributions per 90 minutes.
