In a major development, Barcelona could be set to complete their 11th departure of the ongoing summer window as Memphis Depay is on the verge of completing a transfer to Juventus.
This claim comes from Mundo Deportivo, who state that the Depay has been given the go-ahead to join the Italians by Barça, with the Catalan giants ready to hand him the letter of freedom and let him leave as a free agent.
Depay joined Barcelona only last summer, arriving on a free transfer after his contract with Lyon had run out. The 28-year-old snubbed other clubs who tabled more lucrative contract offers to join the Blaugrana and enjoyed a reasonably successful debut season in Catalonia.
However, the signing of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha has meant that Depay has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou and has been told to leave the club.
Talks with Juventus have been going on for some time now and it is now being claimed that a transfer is close to being completed. The report states that Barcelona have agreed to grant Depay a letter of freedom which will allow him to join the Bianconeri on a free transfer.
And the official confirmation of the deal could arrive as early as Tuesday, following Juve’s Serie A clash against Sassuolo on Monday night.
Should the deal go through as planned, Depay would become the 11th confirmed departure from Barcelona this summer, provided there are no exits between now and then.
The Catalans have parted ways with ten players already, with Dani Alves being released after his contract expired, following which Philippe Coutinho was sold to Aston Villa. Clement Lenglet then joined Tottenham on loan before Rey Manaj left for Watford.
Since then, Francisco Trincao, Moussa Wague, Oscar Mingueza, Riqui Puig and Neto have all departed Barcelona, while the latest exit came in the form of Nico Gonzalez’s loan move to Valencia after he signed a contract extension.
