Barcelona running out of striker alternatives in the transfer market

With just one month remaining in the summer transfer window, Barcelona’s search for a new striker has become increasingly difficult.

Sporting director Deco continues to prioritise Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez as Robert Lewandowski’s replacement, but a deal for the Argentine is looking increasingly complicated at this point.

Meanwhile, as highlighted by SPORT, several alternative targets have already slipped away from the Blaugrana, creating an uncomfortable situation.

Premier League duo out of reach

One of Barcelona’s leading alternatives, Joao Pedro, is no longer available. The Brazilian forward is set to sign a new contract with Chelsea after the Premier League club rejected three offers from major European teams.

Although his deal already ran until 2033, Chelsea have decided to reward his performances with improved terms.

Another Premier League target, Eli Junior Kroupi, has also moved out of reach.

Bournemouth’s reported €130 million valuation, combined with a fractured fifth metatarsal that will sideline the French forward for three to four months, has effectively ended Barcelona’s interest for now.

Backups to backups no longer available too

The latest name to disappear from Barcelona’s shortlist is Fisnik Asllani. The 23-year-old striker grew tired of waiting for Barcelona and is expected to complete a move to RB Leipzig.

Jhon Duran briefly appeared on Barcelona’s shortlist but quickly became unavailable.

The Colombian striker has joined Benfica on loan, with the Portuguese club holding a €30 million purchase option.

Meanwhile, Goncalo Ramos has also completed a move this summer, leaving Paris Saint-Germain to join AC Milan in a deal worth more than €70 million.

Seasoned stars reject exit talk

Other potential options have also ruled themselves out.

Mikel Oyarzabal, whose performances at the World Cup sparked rumours of interest from Barcelona, reaffirmed his commitment to Real Sociedad, saying:

“You can say no to Barcelona. I’m incredibly happy in San Sebastián. Real Sociedad is my home, and I’ve always said I’m exactly where I want to be.”

Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez, long admired by the La Liga champions, has also dismissed speculation about leaving the Italian club.

“I will never leave Inter.”

Barcelona still waiting for Alvarez

Despite the shrinking list of alternatives, Barcelona remain hopeful that Atletico Madrid could soften their stance on Alvarez before the transfer window closes.

If that does not happen, the club are not expected to panic. Barcelona are determined not to rush into signing a second-choice striker.

If Ferran Torres remains at the club, Flick is believed to be satisfied with the attacking options already available, allowing Barcelona to wait rather than force a move before the deadline.
