It has been another season filled with injuries for Barcelona midfielder Pedri. The 21-year-old suffered his third thigh injury of the 2023/24 campaign this past Sunday during the goalless draw against Athletic Club.

After undergoing tests on Monday, it was confirmed that the Spanish international’s injury is of a similar nature to the two he had suffered earlier in the campaign.

It has been since suggested that Pedri would be out for a period of five to six weeks, although Barcelona are not willing to set a return date for the midfield ace.

Surgery ruled out

What is certain, though, is that Pedri will not undergo surgery to address the thigh injury, with Adria Albets reporting that the option has been 100% ruled out by Barcelona.

Instead, the former Las Palmas wonderkid will follow conservative treatment on his road to recovery, with the club not setting any timeline for his return.

Ever since he over-exerted himself during the 2020/21 season, when he played 70 matches for club and country combined, Pedri has become a victim of several muscle injuries.

As mentioned earlier, in this season alone he has suffered three injuries, all of the same nature, which had given raise to questions about whether the surgical route would be sought this time out.

A surgery at this point would have meant that Pedri would be out for the season, much like Alejandro Balde, while his involvement in the UEFA Euro 2024 would also have been under a major doubt.

But, as things stand, the surgical option has been definitively taken off the table and the youngster will follow conservative treatment as he looks to beat his latest injury setback.
