Having signed Pedri from Las Palmas back in 2019, Barcelona tried to execute a similar manoeuvre to land another young Spanish prodigy in the form of Alberto Moleiro earlier this summer.

The 18-year-old has been on the Catalan club’s radar for a while now and talks were held between them and Las Palmas over a transfer this past summer.

A deal worth around €10 million in fixed payments was being negotiated but the talks fell through due to a disagreement over the variables, and Barça walked away from the operation because of their tricky financial situation.

However, the interest in Moleiro has never faded away and it was always believed that negotiations could reopen between the two clubs, reports Mundo Deportivo.

But, as things stand, the 18-year-old is attracting heavy interest from several other clubs and Barcelona could risk missing out on him if they do not act swiftly, adds the report.

Following the collapsing of the deal with Barcelona, Las Palmas tied Moleiro down to a new contract that runs until 2026. As part of the deal, the second division club also inserted a €30 million release clause into the agreement.

Furthermore, the release clause amount stands to double up to €60 million in case Las Palmas earn promotion to La Liga, which is a strong possibility as they are currently leading the La Liga 2 table.

If these financial hurdles were not enough, Barcelona will also have to face serious competition from several clubs who are interested in the talented Moleiro.

The report adds that said teams would be willing to table offers for the 18-year-old as early as January to close a deal, although the youngster is expected to see out the rest of the season at his boyhood club.

It is also mentioned that Barcelona have not made any fresh attempts to restart talks with Las Palmas at the moment. The club’s president, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, has not heard anything about the interest from the Blaugrana and will point at Moleiro’s release clause if any approach is indeed made.

Moleiro has made a good start to the 2022/23 season, assisting three goals in six games, while also breaking into the Spanish Under-21 national team. With rising interest and the possibility of his release clause doubling in value, Barcelona must act with speed if they wish to sign the teenager.
