Barcelona had a dream summer transfer window ahead of the new season, bringing in names like Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Andreas Christensen.

However, the one decision that came under criticism was the sale of Sergino Dest and his replacement with Hector Bellerin from Arsenal.

The La Masia graduate was signed in a one-year contract to fill the vacancy at right-back but has struggled to make a mark in the minutes given to him. His poor performances have opened talks of a possible departure less than six months from his arrival.

According to a report relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Bellerin is expected to stay and continue at Barcelona until the end of the season.

The board recently met with the player’s entourage and the talks held ended on a positive note. During the meeting, Bellerin’s desire to stay was conveyed and confirmed, and a departure in January has been ruled out.

Since his arrival, the 27-year-old has barely featured for the Catalans, with Xavi preferring to deploy Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde over him at right-back. He has played just three La Liga games so far this season, starting only on one occasion.

So far, he averages under five defensive actions, and just 0.2 key passes per ninety minutes for the Blaugranas. It is clear why Xavi does not trust the player, but his prominence could increase in the latter half of the season with competitions like Copa del Rey opening up.

No talks of an extension have started so far, and Barcelona will likely part ways with the defender in the summer.

It has been suggested that the administration see the right-back position as one in need of urgent reinforcement and will focus on strengthening it in the coming summer window.
