Barcelona reach verbal agreement with Polish striker

According to Sport1 journalist Kerry Hau, Barcelona have made another stride in their hopes of signing Robert Lewandowski this summer.

The Bayern Munich forward has stated his desire to leave Bavaria at the end of the season and has no intention to renew his contract with the club. He wants to force through a move to Barcelona after being frustrated by Bayern’s attempts to keep him at the club.

Kerry Hau suggests Barcelona have already kickstarted their operation to sign Lewandowski. They have reached a verbal agreement with the player’s agent Pini Zahavi for a start.

Zahavi has played a crucial role in convincing Lewandowski to quit Bayern and set his sights on the move to Barcelona. He has now verbally agreed a three-year contract for his client.

Despite being aware of Barça’s poor economic situation, president Joan Laporta believes the club can undertake the operation to sign Lewandowski and meet his wages, although the Catalans are certain to ask the Pole to lower his initial demands.

The report suggests Barcelona have assured Lewandowski of soon making an official bid to Bayern Munich, as soon as the Bavarians are ready to receive offers.

Barça have prepared a bid in the region of €30-40 million and it appears the Catalans are willing to pay further compensations.

The exact figure of the operation remains unknown as it depends on several factors including sponsorship deals and player sales. The club have already gotten rid of Philippe Coutinho in a deal worth €20 million.

They are expecting the additional sale of players such as Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti, Miralem Pjanic and Antoine Griezmann among a few others.

It seems Barcelona are determined to acquire the services of Lewandowski and revolve the squad around him in the coming season, though the operation could take time, as Bayern are unlikely to listen to offers until they sign an ideal replacement.
