Lionel Messi has always been a hot topic at FC Barcelona following his shocking exit from Camp Nou in the summer of 2021.
The PSG superstar has already been subjected to a return to Catalonia earlier this year, with Xavi Hernandez keen on having him under his disposal from the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
On that note, Barcelona appear to have started to rebuild the bridges with Lionel Messi, in their attempts to lure him back to Camp Nou next year.
This has been reported by Sergio A. Gonzalez, who suggests that there was a recent rapprochement between Messi and Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
“This week they told me that there was a rapprochement between Laporta and Leo Messi,” says the Barcelona-based journalist (h/t Carpetas Blaugrana), who went on to suggest that Laporta is currently trying to re-establish the relationship between the two and offer more clarity to Messi over his exit last year.
“They told me about a call where Laporta had already begun to reestablish the relationship and explain some things to Leo that they were not closed to when he left,” Gonzalez added.
Messi, who had an unimpressive debut campaign at PSG last season, has enjoyed a solid start to the 2022/23 campaign. He has been involved in 14 goals in 11 competitive matches this term, notably building a formidable attacking partnership alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
However, with his contract at PSG expiring at the end of the season, a return to Camp Nou remains a stark possibility, although Barcelona are set to face stiff competition from some of the MLS clubs, including Inter Miami.
A prolonged stay at PSG cannot be ruled out either, especially with the forward finally finding his feet in Paris this season.
