Ahead of the Liga F El Clasico between Barcelona Femeni and Real Madrid, there was much anxiety at Barcelona surrounding the readiness of Camp Nou and its ability to withstand rain.

After all, the stadium is still under construction and many had questioned whether it has the infrastructure to cope with the kind of weather condition Catalonia has witnessed over the past few days.

So much so, Barcelona formally requested the match to be moved a bit, a request that was granted by the board.

Barcelona pleased with the result

A day after the match, Barcelona have more reasons to be happy other than the team’s 7-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday.

According to SPORT, the club are delighted with how the Camp Nou handled the torrential rain that battered Catalonia over the weekend.

In the Les Corts district, where the stadium is located, rainfall reached a record 213 litres per square metre, an unprecedented level that inevitably tested a venue still under construction.

Despite that, the pitch drainage, which had already passed earlier tests against Feyenoord and Racing Santander, performed superbly once again.

The women’s Clasico went ahead without major disruption, although the club did confirm that some areas of the stadium flooded, but insisted this is entirely normal for a ground that remains largely open-air and under construction.

Thanks to the efforts of the workers, everything is said to be practically back in perfect condition.

The only real downside is that the heavy rain forces construction work to stop for hours or even days at a time.

That pause was somewhat expected this weekend given the women’s Clasico, and work had progressed well during the international break, with Barcelona not having played at the Camp Nou since the Racing Santander game on September 16.

Around 1,500 people are currently working on the Espai Barca project, with efforts now focused on completing the VIP boxes between the second and third tiers.

Per the agreement with Goldman Sachs and investors, 75% of them should be operational by March.

Progress is also being made on the new Museum, scheduled to open in December, and the new Store, which could open as early as April.
