Following the announcement of Xavi Hernandez’s departure, Barcelona have kickstarted preparations for the season ahead.

Recent reports have indicated that Barça are in talks with Ecuadorian youngster Allen Obando, who could become the club’s first signing of the season ahead.

Obando currently plies his trade for Barcelona SC, whose presidential candidate recently confirmed that Barça had held talks with the player’s entourage over a potential move to Catalonia.

Problem for Barcelona

However, a recent report from Diario SPORT has offered a rather grim update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Allen Obando.

It appears the youngster, who had even reportedly completed his medical, is nowhere close to joining Barcelona as of yet.

The 17-year-old forward still appears to have no agreement in place with Barcelona and further decisions regarding his Barça move will be taken by sporting director Deco and head of scouting, Paulo Araujo.

How much will Obando cost?

Obando’s contract at Barcelona SC stands until 2026 and the player has a market value of just €1 million.

However, the youngster’s transfer value is likely to be higher. The report mentions a figure of around €5 million for just 60% of the player’s rights.

If Barcelona are to acquire full rights of Obando, they may have to cough up a figure close to €10 million.

Obando’s market value could be catapulted by interest from other European giants. The report mentions a potential offer from PSG and the Red Bull franchise, but Barcelona do not believe those to be true.

Simply put, Allen Obando’s future is far from defined and it might take some time before Barcelona come up with a final decision, as the club are currently occupied with bigger problems.
