Barcelona midfielder reaches verbal agreement with MLS giants

Riqui Puig is closing in on an exit from FC Barcelona, with a transfer to MLS outfit LA Galaxy on the cards for the 22-year-old midfielder.
The La Masia midfielder had been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Xavi Hernandez following the acquisition of Franck Kessie and Pablo Torre this summer. Puig was one among the five players to be left out of the squad for the pre-season tour to sort out his future.
The Spaniard attracted interest from plenty of clubs across Europe, but a deal that would satisfy all parties could not be struck with any team. Amidst this, the MLS presented as an opportunity for Puig, with LA Galaxy showing serious interest in his services.
And, according to AS, Puig has reached a verbal agreement with LA Galaxy over a transfer this summer, with a transfer to the United States of America looking closer and closer for the young Spanish midfielder.
The report adds that the move could be a loan deal for the remainder of the 2022 season in the MLS, with Puig convinced about a move by former Barça academy ace Victor Vazquez.
However, the deal is yet to be completely agreed upon and the two clubs must now speed up operations as the registration window for new players in the MLS closes on August 4.
There is a good relationship between Barcelona and LA Galaxy, following the latter’s attempt to sign Sergi Roberto earlier this year. Since then, there has been an open line of communication between the two teams regarding players who are not regulars at Camp Nou.
And, with Puig now reaching a verbal agreement with LA Galaxy, a journey in the MLS could be on the cards for the La Masia graduate, who has failed to deliver on the promise he showed throughout his youth career.
