In what could be a major boost for Barcelona, midfield sensation Pedri could be in line for a return from injury early in January, according to Mundo Deportivo.

It has been a frustrating season for the 19-year-old prodigy, who has not featured in La Liga since late August while his last appearance for Barça came in the UEFA Champions League clash against SL Benfica in September.

While he was earlier expected to be back in November, the youngster has had to deal with setbacks along the way. Pedri’s absence hasn’t been felt a great deal thanks to the emergence of midfield talents like Gavi and Nico Gonzalez this season.

But, it seems like Barcelona may soon be welcoming back the Golden Boy 2021 Award winner. According to the report from Mundo Deportivo, the 19-year-old’s recovery is going very well and at this rate, he should be ready to return to action in early January.

Barça have two more matches to be played in La Liga later this month before they go off on a winter break. The Catalans’ first game after the mid-season hiatus will be against RCD Mallorca on January 2.

And, the report states that Pedri could be ready in time for a return for that encounter. It is claimed that the youngster had been scheduled for medical check-ups on Wednesday, because of which he could not participate in Sergio Aguero’s press conference when he announced his retirement.

Apart from Pedri, Barcelona could also be ready to welcome Ansu Fati back for the game against Mallorca. In addition to that, Dani Alves will also be eligible to play for the Catalans after having rejoined the club on a free transfer in November.

This will certainly come as a big boost for the Blaugrana who are in need to turn things around at the earliest to salvage their campaign and make a push for a top-four finish in La Liga.
