Following a major overhaul during the summer transfer window, the coming year could be crucial for Barcelona as they look to complete the rest of the rebuild.

A major objective for sporting director Deco is to bring in more young blood into the squad. And to that end, the Brazilian has already identified his next big target in the market.

Barcelona interested in Gabriel Moscardo

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona have expressed interest in Gabriel Moscardo, a young Brazilian plying his trade for Corinthians.

The Blaugrana’s sporting director Deco has already contacted the Brazilian outfit to convey the club’s interest in the teenage prodigy’s interest.

A defensive midfielder by trade, Moscardo has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since being promoted to the senior team earlier this year.

Standing at 1.85m, the 18-year-old has impressed onlookers with his defensive work-rate and ability to control the tempo of the game in the middle of the park.

Needless to say, Moscardo’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona particularly keen on roping him in.

Move eyed for 2024

As per the report, Barcelona have already made contacts with Corinthians, seeking a potential move in 2024.

Sporting director Deco is working closely on the case and is aware of the fact that Chelsea have been already refused twice in their attempts to sign the young midfielder.

Given the way Barcelona have been nurturing young talents under Xavi Hernandez, Moscardo could find Camp Nou an attractive destination as he looks to further his career.

With Sergio Busquets leaving in the summer and Oriol Romeu entering in the final phase of his career, signing a new defensive midfielder could be the need of the hour.

Gabriel Moscardo, to that end, appears to be an exciting long-term option for the Catalans.

Signing the Brazilian, though, could come at a premium. Having rejected Chelsea twice, Corinthians are asking for a figure of around €30 million.
