Barcelona like €14 million-rated Tottenham midfielder as an option to replace Gavi

Following the serious injury sustained by Gavi this past weekend, FC Barcelona are now prioritising the signing of a new interior midfielder in the January transfer window.
Gavi has ruptured his ACL while playing for Spain against Georgia last night and will now miss the rest of the season.
As such, Xavi Hernandez & co. are now looking to sign a new midfielder to cope with the absence of their teenage wonderkid.
Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso on the agenda
And as per an update from Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is back on the agenda at Barcelona for the January transfer window.
The Argentine midfielder was already an option in the summer because Xavi and his coaching staff liked him a lot, but in the end, he stayed at Tottenham.
However, Lo Celso’s role has been much less important once the season started, although a thigh injury kept him out practically the whole month of September.
So far this term, the 27-year-old, whose market value stands at €14 million, has played just four times across all competitions this term.
That is why Barça see him as a fantastic alternative to cope with the unfortunate injury of Gavi.
Loan move being considered
As such, Barcelona are now considering a loan move for Lo Celso during the January transfer window, which could be the best thing for all parties involved.
The player would have the minutes that he does not have in London and for Tottenham it would be a good option so that he could increase his value at Barça.
In addition, it is worth remembering that the 27-year-old knows La Liga well because he played for both Villarreal and Real Betis, and as such, could help the Catalans.
Lo Celso is a player they have been following at Ciutat Esportiva for months. He was one of the names that fit the profile that they had for the interior midfielder that Xavi asked for.
Lo Celso knows how to play well between the lines, has a final pass, and is a good finisher. Having been unable to sign him in the summer, it remains to be seen if Barcelona are second-time lucky.
