Ronaldinho’s son Joao Mendes has made his debut for FC Barcelona Juvenil B in a friendly tournament, reports Spanish publication SPORT.

The 18-year-old signed for Barcelona in early March after a two-week trial with the club. As part of his trial, he played for the team in a friendly against Manchester United as part of a mix of the Juvenil A and B youth teams.

Mendes’ contract was made official in the presence of the club director Joan Soler and the director of Training Football, José Ramon Alexanco.

Just over four weeks after officially signing for the Blaugrana, the 18-year-old appeared for the Juvenil B team for the first time at the MIC tournament being held across Catalonia. He was spotted donning the number 7 shirt as he made his way to the field.

It must be remembered that Mendes began his playing career with the Brazilian side Flamengo before moving to Cruzeiro in 2018. Having joined the club at the age of 13, it is said that he hid the fact that he is the son of Ronaldinho.

Only a year after his first trial with Cruzeiro, he signed his first professional contract with the team, which was, in fact, a six-year deal. After almost four seasons with the team, he left Cruzeiro and went on to have his trial with FC Barcelona.

In February, club president Joan Laporta confirmed, “We want Ronaldinho’s son to continue his career here. We will make him a contract [offer]. The other day we spoke with Roberto (his agent) and he has to close some things in Brazil.”

In March, Mendes officially signed for Barcelona and was assigned to the youth system. Interestingly enough, even before Flamengo and Cruzeiro, he had a brief tenure with Paris Saint-Germain as well.

Unlike his father, Ronaldinho, Mendes is naturally a left-footer and is, in fact, a striker. Now that he has made his debut with the junior team, it will be interesting to see how his career goes from hereon.
