Barcelona’s legend Rivaldo criticized Ousmane Dembélé for having refused to leave the club in the past transfer market. The winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1999 mentioned that the Frenchman has shown nothing in Catalonia, and that he does not make the slightest effort to achieve it.
“Dembélé continues to get injured, arriving late for training … He should be much more responsible. If he does his job, if he were playing regularly, he would have all the right in the world to stay at Barcelona, but that is not the case. Dembélé has done nothing to return to the club the enormous effort they made with his signing”Rivaldo on Ousmane Dembélé
Likewise, the Brazilian legend admits that Ousmane has enormous talent, but that he doesn’t know how to take advantage of it. Rivaldo advised the Frenchman to have more commitment with the club to be successful.
“He seems to be an extraordinary player with magnificent conditions, but as he continues down this path, his contract will end without having shown anything at all. It does not depend on the coach or the club but on Dembélé’s commitment”Rivaldo on Ousmane Dembélé
Rivaldo’s criticism of Dembélé is not surprising. The Brazilian player constantly makes this type of comment towards the Catalan club and its players. The Blaugrana legend was one of the best players in the world, but he is not known for being the friendliest team-mate.
Perhaps Rivaldo is right that everything depends on Dembélé, but his arguments are not enough to make constructive criticism of the player. It seems more as if he is trying to attack him for not having left Barcelona.
Let’s hope that Dembélé manages to prove himself this season, and put some shame on those who demanded him to leave. Of course, he will have to work more than ever, and this would be only achievable through an injury-free season.
