Barcelona won 3-2 after conceding the first goal away to Marcelino’s Athletic Club. Pedri scored and assisted in the win and spoke to the media afterwards.

“We knew that it would be a difficult game. We had confidence and we made the comeback.”

“They scored early on in the game, but luckily for us we scored the equalizer not too long after that.”

“I’m very glad that I helped the team win. I scored my first header in my career; I haven’t scored with my head before.”

The 18-year-old was also asked about his assist to Lionel Messi, to which he responded:

“Messi said something to me as he ran behind me and that’s why I passed it to him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have seen him.”

Pedri’s header was a tap-in, but the move that led to the goal was sublime. It pinpointed both Lionel Messi’s superb game and Frenkie de Jong feeling really well in his new role. Pedri returned the favour to his captain brilliantly. The Argentine also showed his leadership by instructing the midfielder throughout the game.

The 18-year-old has still faith in winning the title, and told that his team will keep fighting for it:

“We’re going to keep fighting for the top spot. There’s still a long way to go in the league, and we have to continue improving.”

With this win, Barcelona move to third in the table. With Atlético leading by seven points with two games in hand, winning the league will be hard. However, if players like Pedri, Ousmane Dembélé, de Jong and Messi keep playing like this, Barcelona might be contenders for the Champions League title, and in case Atletico limps, even winning the league would not be impossible.
