Philippe Coutinho was one of the Bartomeu administration signings who failed to make marks at FC Barcelona. The Brazilian deal has been catastrophic until now, both sportingly and financially. According to the Mundo Deportivo, the new board is looking to offload Coutinho either on a loan deal or get an agreement for his transfer completed in the summer.

Coutinho’s consistent insistence on moving to Camp Nou made the negotiations between Liverpool and FC Barcelona difficult. The final deal was fixed at €120m + €40m in variables.

The variables were subject to completion of different clauses, including €5 million for playing 25 games, €20 million for playing 100 games, €10 million for qualifying the first two years for the Champions League, and another 5 million for winning the tournament continental. In these years, Barca has had to complete 15 of them.

Until now, the 28-year-old has played 90 games for the Catalan club and was set to fulfil the clause, only to be limited by a serious knee injury. Club sources have confirmed Mundo Deprotivo that games played for Bayern Munich during his loan spell won’t count.

Coutinho has played 14 games for Barcelona this season. He started the season well, only to be ruined by injuries. Since then, other players such as Pedri and Dembele have taken up his position in a pretty emphatic manner.

Given the quality the Brazilian possesses, there would be many suitors available to acquire his services for sure. With Carlos Tusquests claiming that if Barcelona can offload some players there are chances that the Blaugrana can make an expensive signing, the board will undoubtedly look to exercise the possibility of selling a player who has not been able to hit the ground running in almost two and a half seasons.
