As reported by French news outlet L’Equipe, Barcelona have set their sights on acquiring FC Sochaux’s 15-year-old pearl Amidou Doumbouya. The publication says that Bundesliga side Freiburg also happen to share the same interest as Barcelona.

Doumbouya is a 15-year-old central midfielder, who can also play as a central defender, and will turn 16 on August 5. As soon as he reaches that age, he will be eligible to sign his first professional contract and the aforementioned outlet says that it could be with one of the two mentioned teams.

Doumbouya, a U16 international with France, caught the attention of local media earlier this year during the Montaigu youth tournament where his team finished third. Les Bleus defeated Romania in the third-place decider after having lost the semi-final round to Japan, who went on to lose to England in the final.

Interestingly enough, Doumbouya’s record with his international team is quite impressive, to say the least. The 15-year-old has won seven of the 10 games he has played for his country.

As it turns out, his performances haven’t gone unnoticed as both Barcelona and Freiburg are prepared to wait until he turns 16 so that they can approach him with his first-ever professional contract in a move that is expected to cost €2 million.

Doumbouya was previously in the Bourges youth system and it was only last summer that he moved to the Jaune et Bleu academy. Over the course of the ongoing season, the midfielder has impressed one and all with his clinical performances.

Barcelona’s interest in Doumbouya goes on to show the management is not only focused on reinforcing the senior team in the summer, but they are also equally working responsibly for grassroots football.

Those responsible for the scouting network have done their job and it’s the management’s job now to get the follow-through work done.
