As Ousmane Dembele edges closer to leaving FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain, the Catalans are starting to scour the market to try and identify possible replacements for the Frenchman.
The 26-year-old has been a key player for Xavi Hernandez and his departure is bound to leave a big void in the team.
As such, Barça will look for a player who might not necessarily be a like-for-like replacement, but can have a major impact from the get-go and make a difference on the pitch.
To that end, journalist Albert Fernandez via Directo Gol is reporting that there are five candidates on the table as Barcelona look to replace Dembele.
Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)
The links between Barcelona and Bernardo Silva are not new at all and the departure of Dembele could open up enough Fair Play margin for the La Liga champions to go after the Manchester City superstar.
Even though he would not be a like-for-like replacement, Xavi continues to push for his signing and the player is also keen on making the switch. But the Cityzens will not give in easily and will fight to keep hold of him. If the 28-year-old asks to leave, they could set a high asking price to ward off Barcelona.
Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid)
Another player who is on Barça’s radar but does not have the same profile as Dembele, Joao Felix also finds himself being linked with a move to Catalonia. The player has admitted he dreams of playing for the Blaugrana and has a lot of admirers at the club.
However, Xavi does not see him as a good fit and is not prioritising his signing. Despite that, though, economically, Felix could make a lot of sense for Barcelona and is said to be closest to joining, with talks already reinitiated.
Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich)
Leroy Sane could be a good option for Barcelona, given that he is versatile, in his prime years, and has years of experience playing at the highest level with Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old is adept at scoring goals and fashioning chances, but reports from Germany suggest that he does not want to leave Bavaria and move to Barça this summer to replace Dembele. Furthermore, with still two years on his contract, his fees could also become an issue.
Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich)
All the parameters which make Sane a good option for Barcelona, apply to his Bayern Munich teammate Kingsley Coman as well. The 27-year-old Frenchman has been on the club’s radars in the past as well.
However, his signing this summer would be next to impossible as Coman signed a new contract with the Bundesliga champions in January last year, committing his future to the club until 2027.
Jeremy Doku (Rennes)
The youngest player on the list, Doku has been making big strides with Rennes over the past couple of seasons. Even though he is not the most prolific wingers out there, the 21-year-old has shown loads of potential and has room to grow into a superstar.
However, Barcelona are not alone in pursuit of the Belgian winger as Premier League champions Manchester City are also interested in signing him as a replacement for Riyad Mahrez.
