Barcelona have begun negotiations to sign ‘Premier League Team of the Season’ midfielder
Barcelona’s transfer market activity is far from over this summer as the club are actively looking for a solution in various areas of the pitch, including the number eight slot.
Although Pedri has done a sensational job, Xavi wants to sign an ideal partner for the youngster, with Bernardo Silva emerging as the ideal option. And according to Diario SPORT, it appears Barça are prepared to go all out to sign the Portuguese international this summer.
The report suggests Barcelona are looking to lower the cost of the operation as much as they can. They are expected to hold talks in Manchester City in the days to come, hoping that the Premier League giants could lower their current valuation.
Silva is currently valued at around €80 million, but such a figure would be unattainable for FC Barcelona, even though the Catalans are pursuing him irrespective of the future of Frenkie de Jong.
Barcelona are aware of Silva’s desperation to leave Manchester City. They are ready to woo the Portuguese international to a move to Camp Nou as well and are hoping to use the player’s desire to lower the price tag.
But negotiations with Man City could be tricky, as Pep Guardiola rates the player extremely highly. The player also has a contract until 2025, meaning the Premier League giants have the full leverage to hold out for a lucrative deal.
However, Barcelona do hold a trump card in the form of de Jong. While the club are in a position where they may not need to sell de Jong, the Dutchman’s exit could become handy if the Catalans are to fund a move for Silva this summer.
Chelsea have been recently linked with a move for the former Ajax starlet, although whether or not the Blues are willing to spend a fortune on the midfielder remains to be seen.
