As Barcelona plan their strategy heading into the upcoming summer transfer window, there is a sense of awareness that big sales will be unavoidable.
The Catalans hope to make massive acquisitions come June. Lionel Messi, Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez are just three of the players Barcelona are looking to bring in, and the transaction comes at a price.
Several reports have gone on to state that Joan Laporta would need to engineer multiple high-profile departures and wage cuts to enable the desired moves. Thus, a list of hierarchy is being prepared at the offices of Barcelona arranging players from most to least valued.
According to reports from Gerard Romero, Xavi Hernandez has personally told the club that he sees Ousmane Dembele to be an untouchable member of the squad. The Frenchman will not be sold under any circumstances and seen as the creme-de-la-creme of the players in Catalonia.
Dembele’s career at Barcelona has been largely injury-riddled. However, he saw his first prolonged period of fitness towards the end of last season and was even phenomenal for the club in the first half of the 2022-23 season.
The 25-year-old scored five goals and provided as many assist in 18 appearances in La Liga this term. With his fiery pace and trickery, he has been one of the team’s most potent creative outlets with close to two key passes per game. Further, he has created seven big chances in La Liga alone.
The former Borussia Dortmund man has not featured for the Blaugranas since his injury against Girona late in January. He is now said to be close to regaining complete fitness and is expected to be available at Xavi’s disposal for Barcelona’s clash against Rayo Vallecano midweek.
