With Barcelona confirming the imminent departure of Mateu Alemany, the La Liga leaders are on the lookout for a new Director of Football to replace the 60-year-old.

Alemany, who joined the club two years ago after Joan Laporta returned as president, has done a terrific job during his time at Spotify Camp Nou. However, some differences with the board and a superior offer from Aston Villa has convinced him to move on.

Barcelona are already hard at work to find a replacement, with several names being mentioned as possible options. Former Real Betis director Antonio Cordon was said to be among them, but recent reports suggest that he is not under consideration.

Instead, it is former Barça midfielder Deco who has emerged as the most likely candidate to be appointed as the new director of football at the club to replace the outgoing Alemany.

Now, though, Alfredo Martinez is reporting that Barcelona have added another name to their list of potential replacements for Alemany in the form of Fernando Carro de Prada, the current CEO of Bayern Leverkusen.

The 58-year-old has been at the Bundesliga club since 2018 and has emerged as one of the most powerful men in German football. Born in Barcelona, Carro knows European football perfectly and is known to be a man of numbers.

A candidate who is more experienced than someone like Deco when it comes to this role, Carro could be an intriguing option for Barcelona.

With Jordi Cruyff also considering his future at Spotify Camp Nou, it is important that the Blaugrana move quickly and make the necessary changes ahead of a pivotal summer transfer window for the club.
