Just like Barcelona, Manchester United, too, are gearing up for a busy summer ahead. In fact, the club’s representatives are already touring Europe in an attempt to get a headstart on transfers.

Manchester United officials, including football director John Murtough, were in Barcelona on Monday. They met Barcelona sporting director Deco to discuss key topics.

According to ESPN, the future of Mason Greenwood was a hot topic during Manchester United officials’ visit to Spain.

The English attacker has done a remarkable job since joining Getafe on loan last summer. He has been involved in 13 goals in all competitions, becoming one of Getafe’s best performers.

Greenwood’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with a few Spanish clubs keen on acquiring his services. Even Barcelona have been linked with a move for the Englishman lately.

Barcelona distance themselves from Greenwood

However, despite the recent links, ESPN clarified that Barcelona have distanced themselves from a potential Greenwood deal, during the meeting with Manchester United officials.

It appears the Catalans are not willing to bet on the English frontman despite his good performances at Getafe.

Barcelona, along with other potential suitors, have primary concerns surrounding the criminal investigations over an alleged sexual assault that ended his career at Old Trafford.

Although Manchester United are aware of Greenwood’s performances in La Liga, the club are desperate to offload the player in the coming summer.

Barcelona, for their part, could use the services of a new attacker next season. But the club are not willing to take the gamble on Greenwood, whose potential acquisition may draw a lot of criticism from supporters.

Barcelona, therefore, are likely to shift their attention to other alternatives in the market. The Catalans had recently held talks with the agent of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, although the club are not in a position to afford the South American superstar this summer.
