Frenkie de Jong has become a talked-about figure in the transfer market in recent weeks, with the midfielder being subjected to a potential move away from Camp Nou.

For the The appointment of Erik ten Hag has served as a catalyst in these exit rumours, with the new Manchester United coach reportedly keen on a potential reunion at Old Trafford next season.

Reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has chimed in on the issue, revealing Manchester United’s recent meeting with ten Hag, where the topic of de Jong has been discussed.

It has been made clear that the Dutchman is keen on reuniting with the Barcelona midfielder next season as he looks to add some real quality to the Man United midfield that is set to lose Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba at the end of the season.

However, Fabrizio suggests the operation to sign the Barcelona star is going to be extremely difficult. Xavi Hernandez has no intention of letting his midfield asset leave the club in the summer.

The player himself has revealed no desire to put an abrupt end to his career in Barcelona. At the same time, though, the Catalans are in a perilous financial situation, with their spending limit being reduced to a negative figure in March.

Frenkie de Jong’s potential sale could represent the best avenue for generating funds for Barcelona this summer, and with that in mind, the Catalans could entertain offers in the region of €80-85 million.

The figure is still thought to be too high for Manchester United, although their pursuit of Dutchman could greatly hinge on their ability to offload unwanted stars such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford and Eric Bailly among many others.
