Pau Cubarsi’s rise to prominence has left the footballing world in shock. It is not normal for a teenage player to step up and play with the maturity the Barcelona starlet does for a top club in Europe, let alone in the UEFA Champions League.

In a matter of months, Cubarsi has established himself as one of the first team’s undisputed starters in central defence, even displacing the vastly experienced Inigo Martinez in the process.

The 17-year-old’s progress and growth on the field, needless to say, have brought him into the limelight, and according to a recent update from Transfermarkt, have also given him a significant bump in terms of market value.

Exponential growth

As revealed earlier this week, Lamine Yamal saw a big jump in market value as per the website’s latest update, growing by 25% from his €60 million tag.

Cubarsi’s valuation, meanwhile, has seen a jump far more exponential than his compatriot.

The teenage sensation was valued at €1.5 million before his heroics for the first team. His value now stands at €25 million, over 15 times his previous value.

It is an indicator of the meteoric rise that the 17-year-old has experienced just two months into his first-team career at Barcelona.

The 17-year-old has started nine out of Barcelona’s last ten games and has overseen four clean sheets in the process. In that duration, he has averaged close to ten defensive actions and 3.5 ball recoveries per game.

On duty with Spain

Cubarsi’s astronomical growth at the club level earned him a place in Luis de la Fuente’s squad in what is his maiden call-up to the Spain squad.

The youngster is currently on duty with the national team as they prepare to take on Colombia and Spain in the final international break before the Euros.

It remains to be seen if the manager trusts Cubarsi with minutes against the South American sides, but it is safe to say that there is a good likelihood he will get his international debut.

A place in the Spanish national team for the European championships, suddenly, is not a distant possibility for the teenager.
