The international break before the World Cup had proven to be quite the bane for FC Barcelona as they had lost several players to injury.

And things have not started well for the La Liga leaders this time around either as defensive mainstay Andreas Christensen has picked up an injury during Denmark’s match against Finland.

The 26-year-old centre-half started the match for the hosts in Copenhagen but had to be taken off just 18 minutes into the match, with Victor Nelsson coming in to replace him.

A clear picture of Christensen’s injury and recovery time could emerge once the game is over.

It does come as a major concern for Barcelona, who already lost Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong to injuries just before the international break kicked off.

Pedri, too, has had a setback in his recovery and could be out for around four more weeks, while Ousmane Dembele is yet to recover from his thigh injury either.

As for Christensen, the 26-year-old has quietly established himself as one of the most consistent and reliable performers for Barcelona since arriving from Chelsea on a Bosman deal.

The Dane has been key to the Catalans’ rock-solid defensive showings, with Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmund even hailing him as one of the best centre-backs in the world currently.

Barcelona will be hoping that Christensen’s injury is nothing serious and that he will recover in time for the La Liga encounter against Elche on April 1.
