Barcelona will travel to Madrid this weekend for their penultimate game of the 2021/22 season as they take on Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday.

Heading into the game, the Catalan giants could be without as many as nine players due to injuries and suspension issues.

Indeed, Frenkie de Jong, Eric Garcia and Jordi Alba are all out suspended after picking up yellow cards in the last game against Celta Vigo. Meanwhile, Sergi Roberto, Gerard Pique, Pedri, Nico Gonzalez and Sergino Dest are out injured.

Another player who had been practically ruled out of the contest was defender Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan international was involved in an unfortunate clash of heads with Gavi in the game against Celta Vigo and had to be rushed straight to a hospital after the incident.

Much to the relief of the club and the fans, test results showed that there was no serious issue with the centre-half, but he had suffered a concussion, which had made him a doubt for the weekend clash.

However, according to Diario AS, Araujo wants to be involved in the game against Getafe on Sunday and is pushing himself to become available for selection.

The report states that Araujo trained in the gym on Friday and plans to push himself to try and train with the team outside on Saturday before the trip to Madrid.

The coaching staff are in favour of resting the former Boston River starlet, but he is keen on getting back on the pitch and helping the team confirm a second-place finish in the league.

A five-day rest is usually advised for someone in Araujo’s condition, as per the report. But if the player feels he is ready to return, Xavi & co. might take him along to Madrid.

Some Barcelona B prospects could also get a chance on Sunday, with the likes of Mika Marmol, Alvaro Sanz, Jandro Orellana and Carevic all being called up to train with the senior team by Xavi.
