Despite an excellent start to the domestic campaign, FC Barcelona are yet to turn the screws in the UEFA Champions League so far, with the team recently losing 1-0 to Inter Milan.

The defeat at San Siro could be consequential as the Catalans are now left with just three points in three matches. It means they must win their remaining matches, including the game against Bayern Munich later in the season.

With Barça on the brink of another UCL group stage elimination, a report from Diario AS has offered a detailed report on the financial toll it could take on the club.

The report suggests the Blaugrana could lose out on earnings of up to €52.7 million if they get eliminated from the group stage of the most-coveted European competition.

That is as per the prizes awarded by UEFA in the top tournament of Europe, with teams qualifying to the Round of 16 notably being handed €9.6 million.

Quarterfinalists will be awarded €10.6 million while semi-finalists will get €12.5 million. The two finalists will be handed €15.5 million each. There is also a cash bonus of €4.5 million for the champions, thus totalling up to €52.7 million.

Missing out on such prize money could be catastrophic for Barcelona, especially in the backdrop of a summer transfer window where they spent fortunes on players such as Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde and Raphinha, among many others.

Back-to-back eliminations from the Champions League group stage will also lead to a major loss of prestige for a club that are regarded as one of the biggest in world football.

However, there is no going back and Barcelona must show the character in Europe that has been missing for the past few years.

With three matches remaining, they must secure all three points against Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen. A win against Bayern Munich may also be necessary, but it will depend heavily on other results, including Inter’s match-up against Plzen.
