Barcelona considering the signing of 520-goal striker as Plan B for Haaland

Barcelona are expected to exploit the free agents’ market to the fullest but will bear no shortcomings when it comes to signing a new centre forward. While Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland still remains a top priority, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski has now emerged as a potential target for the Catalan team.
As reported by the Spanish publication SPORT, Lewandowski’s name is the one that has been put on the table after the Poland international stalled the contract negotiations with the record Bundesliga champions.
Although the 33-year-old still has a year left in his current deal, there has been no significant movement from either party as the forward wants clarity on his future before signing a new deal.
However, it’s important to note that the Catalan management, headed by Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff, has a defined blueprint in place, and Lewandowski certainly isn’t the only player that has been considered. The priority, however, will always be given to Erling Haaland.
The fierce competition the Catalan team has for the Norway forward might very well see them missing out on the forward.
Although Barcelona will fight for him till the very end, preference will be given to rather young forwards in case the team fails to acquire the Dortmund frontman. This includes the likes of Alexander Isak, Karim Adeyemi, Lautaro Martinez.
As for Lewandowski, Barça aren’t the only team monitoring his situation, with Manchester United said to have shown interest as well.
According to the German newspaper BILD, the English Premier League side is preparing to become the first team to offer Lewandowski a contract in case Poland international does decide to part ways with the Bavarians.
One can see why the veteran forward continues to attract heavy interest despite being on the wrong side of his 30s, having scored a whopping 42 goals across all competitions already. And Barça are well aware of the situation, but the Poland international will only be the last resort.
