Barcelona considering removing disgraced ex-president Bartomeu as a socio
According to the latest reports from AS, Barcelona are considering removing former president Josep Maria Bartomeu as a socio after the disciplinary commission opened a case against him due to his involvement in the Barçagate scandal.
Bartomeu has been a member of FC Barcelona since April 1974 and even served as the president of the club from January 2014 to October 2020, at which point he was forced to hand in his resignation ahead of a vote of no confidence.
Following his involvement in the Barçagate scandal, the Disciplinary Commission of FC Barcelona sent him a letter earlier this year in June informing him regarding the case that was opened against him.
As per the statutes of the club, Bartomeu could have been involved in an act that stands against the law, the agreements and the statutes of the General Assembly and the Board of Directors ‘which causes material or moral damages of consideration to the club, other members, or players, coaches or employees of the club,’ among other offences.”
The Disciplinary Commission, chaired by the secretary of the board, Josep Cubells, and made up of partners Lluís Bou, Daniel Pintó, Joan Alsina and Ramon Estebe, is still in the middle of studying the case against the former club president.
They are also awaiting the results of the court proceedings against Bartomeu in the case filed by Cadena SER over the Barçagate scandal which has been going on since 2020.
The ex-Barcelona president’s entire term has been marred by corruption scandals and illegal activities and he was even placed under arrest in March last year for misappropriation of funds.
With his case under investigation by the Disciplinary Commission of FC Barcelona, he could soon stand to lose his club membership.
