Barcelona considering Inter Milan midfielder for the summer – report

There is no secret Barcelona are in the market for a new midfielder this summer. Even though Sergio Busquets is contemplating his renewal at Camp Nou for at least another season, the club want to sort out their options if the veteran opts to leave.
According to Giacomo Iacobellis, one of the players Barcelona are strongly considering is Marcelo Brozovic. The Inter Milan midfielder has been a target for the club for a while now and was even linked with a move to Camp Nou in January.
Barcelona thinks highly of Brozovic as he offers a chunk of experience at the age of 30. He can also offer the leadership skills that could prove to be crucial in helping Barcelona move on from Busquets.
Another key factor is that Brozovic does not require an additional pivot and can take control of midfield by himself. This could come in handy especially if Barcelona do indeed look to operate Lionel Messi as the fourth midfielder.
It would also make Barcelona more competent in the second line of press, especially with Frenkie de Jong and Pedri operating in the interior positions.
In addition to his tactical flexibility, Barcelona will only have to dish out €6 million on his salaries, which is a tad lower than what they have offered to Busquets in his renewal offer.
Hence, it will be interesting to see how things transpire over the coming weeks. There is no doubt that Barcelona’s pursuit of Brozovic could strongly depend on the fate of Busquets, as he looks to contemplate the final move in his splendid career.
