Angel Di Maria was one of Barcelona’s top targets last summer. After ending his spell at Paris Saint-Germain, he was close to joining Camp Nou, but a move did not materialise due to several economic restrictions.

Di Maria eventually ended up joining Juventus on a free transfer. The possibility of the Argentine attacker moving to Camp Nou was subsequently buried for good.

However, Mateo Moretto has come out with a shocking report recently, suggesting that there is a small possibility Di Maria’s next destination could be Barcelona this coming summer.

Moretto claims Barça have been following Di Maria’s situation for a while now. The attacker’s current contract at Juventus expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be available as a free agent in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona have already made a few inquiries. If the Catalans end up sanctioning the return of Lionel Messi, their interest in Di Maria could end up becoming something more concrete, Moretto adds.

During his maiden season at Juventus, the veteran forward has been involved in 15 goals in all competitions. He also starred for the Argentine side, helping La Albiceleste secure the 2022 FIFA World Cup title.

Despite his age, Barcelona are well aware of the quality and experience Di Maria brings to the table. And with players like Ferran Torres and Raphinha in contention to leave Camp Nou this summer, the Argentine could be a short-term fix in the wide attacking department.

The offensive partnership between Messi, Robert Lewandowski, and Di Maria could make Barcelona quite potent going forward, especially with young players such as Ansu Fati, Lamine Yamal, and Gavi backing them up in the creative department.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming weeks. Di Maria, for his part, will certainly be hoping to fulfil his dream of playing with Messi at Barcelona next season.
