Barcelona close the signing of 16-year-old defensive prodigy

In a major update, SPORT reports that FC Barcelona have closed the signing of 16-year-old defensive prospect Jorthy Mokio from KAA Gent.

The teenage starlet is a bet of the club’s sporting director Deco, who insists on the policy of signing promising young players who are ready to spend one or two years in the reserve team before being able to make the leap to the first team.

And, the former midfielder has finally sealed the arrival of Mokio – one of the players he has been trying to sign for months.

Deco has been personally involved in the process of closing the deal for the 16-year-old centre-back, who has already broken into the first-team setup at Gent.

Just a few weeks ago a photograph emerged in which Deco himself posed with the player’s agents in a clear indication that the deal was not only going ahead but had already entered the final stretch.

Furthermore, Mokio, his family and his agent have already visited the Ciutat Esportiva on a couple of occasions and have also attended a Barça first team game this season.

In these meetings, the details of the signing and the roadmap for the player’s growth over the next few years were outlined.

Plan for Mokio

A few weeks ago, Gent took it for granted that Mokio would leave for a new adventure at Barça.

There were talks of proposals from AS Roma and Manchester City, but the president of Gent came out and publicly confessed that the player’s parents had warned there was no need to listen to any more offers as the decision had been made.

Deco’s idea is to evaluate Mokio thoroughly during the pre-season with the reserve team, regardless of whether or not they are promoted to the second division.

Both the player and his entourage have opted for the Blaugrana offer in view of the evident progression of the young players trained in the youth academy.
