Barcelona’s road to improvement under Ronald Koeman’s reign has been quite rocky to say the least but now, finally, the results are starting to show. Of course, the Catalans are still 10 points behind the league leaders but their form is on the rise.

The stats do confirm this thesis as Barcelona are among the very few teams in 2021 who are yet to be brought to a stalemate or beaten since the turn of the year. According to Whoscored‘s data, only Manchester City (6/6), Atlético Madrid (5/5), Monaco (5/5) and the Azulgranas themselves (5/5) have a 100% win rate so far.

While this is definitely brilliant news for Koeman and his troops, the fact that their direct rivals for the La Liga crown are also among the elite is problematic, to say the least. The Rojiblancos are breaking record across the board and seem like an incredibly efficient team. Battling them for the title will be no walk in the park.

However, Barcelona’s recent surge cannot and should not be ignored. Koeman inherited a highly flawed team that’s now slowly but surely getting back on their feet. The road to the top is very long and tough but that’s where winners thrive in the end.

There’s still a lot of games to be played in 2020/21 and if they can continue this incredible series, maybe by the end of the campaign, there’ll be a title race after all.

But let’s not jump to any conclusions just yet. One step at a time. Can Koeman turn this squad into contenders?

One can only hope so but the signs so far are finally positive and that’s excellent to see. Barcelona are looking alive and the players much happier, especially Lionel Messi himself, whose future is yet to be decided.

Long may it continue.
