As per the latest updates from SPORT, Barcelona could be close to sealing a shock return for former forward Alexis Sanchez from Inter Milan in January.

The 32-year-old spent three years at Barça between 2011 and 2014 and enjoyed a fairly impressive spell. He then had a successful stint at Arsenal and a poor one at Manchester United before ending up at Inter Milan in 2019.

Alexis had a hand in Inter Milan winning the Serie A last season, although he has lost prominence this term, with Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa ahead of him.

Recent reports indicated that a return to Camp Nou in January could be on the cards for the Chilean superstar. And, now SPORT is reporting that a deal could actually materialise if manager Xavi Hernandez gives his go-ahead.

As per the report, Sanchez would arrive at the club on a loan deal while Luuk de Jong, who is already on loan from Sevilla, would move the other way to Italy. It is claimed that Barcelona, Inter Milan and Sevilla are currently working on the deal and it could see the light of the day.

As for Luuk de Jong, he has proven to be an ill-advised signing for the Catalans, who want him off the books and Inter are interested in signing him. Sevilla, for their part, have no objection to the Dutchman moving from Camp Nou to San Siro.

It is also indicated that Barça director Mateu Alemany is working to get the transfer over the line and is only waiting for the manager to sign off on the move.

Capable of playing through the middle or out wide, Sanchez is a proven goal-getter, although his stock has declined since his sorry stint at Manchester United. In his first stint with Barcelona, the 32-year-old scored 46 goals in 141 games. Whether he will get a chance to add to that tally remains to be seen.
