A new report from ElDesmarque has shed light on the financial aspects of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract with Barcelona.

The 32-year-old striker signed for the Catalan giants at the end of the January transfer window. The Gabonese forward was brought in on a Bosman move after Arsenal agreed to terminate his contract, following his falling out with manager Mikel Arteta.

Aubameyang has proven to be a valuable addition for Barça, having netted ten goals and set up one more in just 16 appearances for the club. The striker has played a key role in their rise to the third spot in the La Liga standings.

Given Barcelona’s difficult financial situation at the time of completing the transfer, Aubameyang agreed to forego a large portion of his salary, accepting just €2 million for this season.

However, the aforementioned report makes a shocking revelation that the former Arsenal captain’s wages will rise up to as high as €18 million for the upcoming season.

It would mean that Aubameyang would be charging Barcelona a massive sum of €20 million for a season and a half.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker signed a contract with the Blaugrana that runs until the summer of 2025. However, it includes a clause that would allow both parties to terminate their partnership as early as 2023. It also includes a release clause of €100 million.

Quite how Barcelona manage to balance their books and stay within La Liga’s salary cap limits for next season remains to be seen if Aubameyang’s salary indeed skyrockets as mentioned by the report.

With the Catalan giants planning multiple new arrivals, and also extending contracts of players like Ronald Araujo and Gavi on improved terms, things will certainly get tricky for Mateu Alemany & co. to keep the salary bill under check.
