It recently came to the fore that Barcelona are looking for a winger to reinforce the squad in June. The report stated that the Catalans were even prepared to sacrifice their need for a right-back to strengthen four positions, the flank being one of them.

According to reports from MARCA, Yannick Carrasco could well be that signing. The Spanish publication state that except for a dramatic turn of events, the Belgian will not be an Atletico Madrid player next season. His future lies either in Catalonia or the Premier League.

Xavi Hernandez has two world-class wingers under his command in Raphinha and Ousmane Dembele. However, both players are tailor-made for the right flank and cannot fit into the lineup together without reducing their productivity.

The competition on the right-wing this pushes both players to perform at their best. Contrastingly, however, there is no reliable left winger in the squad. It is this very void that Carrasco could fill.

The Belgian has been on fire in recent games, scoring thrice in his last five games across all competitions. Most recently, he scored for the Red Devils in their friendly game against Germany.

With just three goals all season in La Liga, it is clear that the winger has not been at his best this term. Yet, his resurgence in recent weeks cannot be overlooked.

Barcelona have the option to sign the Belgian for €20 million in June as part of the agreement that saw Memphis Depay move to Civitas Metropolitano. Thus, the Blaugranas are in the driver’s seat despite interest in the player from the Premier League.

Given the club’s difficult finances, Carrasco’s inclusion might be the most feasible option to tick the box. After all, a left-winger will be a real need considering that Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres could leave the club.
