It has been over two weeks since Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer, upon the expiry of his contract. However, his next destination remains undetermined as of yet.

A move to Saudi Arabia looks likely for the 34-year-old midfielder, with reports suggesting that he is already in advanced talks over a transfer with two clubs from the Middle East nation.

Now, building on that, AS reports that Al Hilal are offering Busquets a lucrative contract worth €15 million per year tax-free.

It is a part of their larger scheme to lure Busquets’ former Barcelona teammate and close friend, Lionel Messi to the club.

It is well-established at this point that Al Hilal are making a strong play for the signing of the Argentina captain this summer. With Al Nassr signing Cristiano Ronaldo in January, their rivals now want Messi as their marquee addition in the summer.

To that end, the report states that Al Hilal have proposed a massive contract offer worth $600 million per year to the 35-year-old global superstar.

But with Barcelona also pushing hard to re-sign Messi, the Saudi Arabian outfit are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to convince the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner.

As such, they believe that the presence of Busquets at the club would help convince Messi to move to Saudi Arabia and would make the transition easier for him both from sporting and personal perspectives.

Neither Busquets nor Messi have made a decision on their futures as of yet. And it remains to be seen whether there is any chance of them reuniting in Saudi Arabia or if the former leaves Barcelona and the latter arrives.

Busquets will play his final home game for Barça tomorrow night when they face RCD Mallorca at Spotify Camp Nou. Following the match, the club have planned a special tribute for the midfielder as well as Jordi Alba, who will also be leaving at the end of the season.
